Brother's Keeper is a service program of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. developed with the mission of advocating for and improving the quality of life for Alpha brothers, their spouses, and widows who are retired, are elders, have disabilities, or are ailing — as well as vulnerable members of the broader community.
Limitations caused by advanced age place real demands on family members, caregivers, and the larger community. The Brother's Keeper Program exists to meet those demands with a spirit of brotherhood and service — ensuring that elders and ailing members of the Alpha family remain independently functional and live with dignity in their own homes and communities.
Xi Tau Lambda Chapter carries this mission into North Dallas County. Our brothers identify needs within the Alpha family and surrounding community, then mobilize resources, time, and care to address them — from home upkeep and transportation to companionship and health care navigation. We believe no brother — and no neighbor — should face these challenges alone.
Seven Ways We Serve
The Brother's Keeper Program pursues seven core objectives in service to Alpha family members and vulnerable community members who need assistance maintaining their lives and homes.
Living Environment
Assist in maintaining living environments that are compatible with participants' levels of functioning, ensuring safe and comfortable surroundings.
Property Upkeep
Assist in maintaining the upkeep of participants' properties — repairs, yard work, and home maintenance that become difficult with age or illness.
Health Care Decision-Making
Assist with navigating health care options, appointments, and decisions so that participants can make informed choices about their care.
Companionship
Provide genuine human connection and companionship — combating isolation and ensuring that brothers and community members feel seen and valued.
Legal Services
Provide access to legal guidance and services, helping participants navigate legal matters that can arise with age, disability, or changing circumstances.
Transportation
Provide transportation to medical appointments, errands, and community activities — maintaining participants' connection to the world around them.
Food, Water & Clothing
Ensure adequate supplies of food, water, and clothing — with special emphasis on disaster management and recovery for those most vulnerable in times of crisis.
