Developing the next generation of leaders, scholars, and servants โ young men rooted in the values of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
The Alpha Legacy Group is Xi Tau Lambda Chapter's structured youth development initiative for young men in middle school through high school. Established as part of Xi Tau Lambda's broader community mission, the Alpha Legacy Group prepares young men to excel academically, lead with character, and serve their communities with purpose.
Modeled after Alpha Phi Alpha's longstanding commitment to mentoring the next generation, the program pairs each participant with an active chapter brother who serves as mentor, advisor, and role model. Through a structured curriculum of scholarship, leadership, service, brotherhood, and health and wellness, young men are equipped with the tools they need to succeed in college and in life.
The Alpha Legacy Group is not a club โ it is a pipeline. Participants leave the program as college-ready young men with a network of brothers, a record of service, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence. Many go on to become members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., continuing the legacy they were taught.
Xi Tau Lambda Chapter established the Alpha Legacy Group on the conviction that the greatest investment a chapter can make is in the young men who will one day lead our communities. Our brothers give their time, their wisdom, and their lived experience to ensure that every participant leaves the program prepared for what comes next.
The program's mission is inseparable from Alpha Phi Alpha's founding purpose: to promote scholarship, to provide for the intellectual development of youth, and to foster brotherhood and service. We carry that purpose into every meeting, every mentorship session, and every scholarship application we help a young man submit.
"To develop young men of character, scholarship, and service โ preparing them to lead with excellence and give back with purpose."
The Alpha Legacy Group is guided and overseen by active brothers of Xi Tau Lambda Chapter. Alumni brothers also participate as mentors and advisors, creating an intergenerational network of support for each young man in the program.
Every participant in the Alpha Legacy Group is developed across five interconnected pillars โ each one essential, none optional.
Academic excellence is the foundation. Participants are held to GPA standards, receive tutoring support, and develop the study habits and discipline that will serve them throughout college and career.
From public speaking to civic engagement, young men learn to lead in their schools, communities, and families. Leadership sessions challenge participants to find and use their voice.
Participants complete a minimum of 20 community service hours per year, participating in chapter-led service days and independent volunteer projects that connect them to North Dallas County.
One-on-one mentorship from a chapter brother, cohort bonding activities, and a culture of accountability build the brotherly relationships that sustain young men through challenges.
Physical fitness, mental health awareness, and healthy lifestyle education ensure that participants understand that a strong mind and body are the foundation of everything else they aspire to accomplish.
The Alpha Legacy Group is designed to be a scholarship pipeline โ not a one-time program. Participants who demonstrate academic excellence and commitment to service become eligible for scholarship consideration through Xi Tau Lambda Chapter and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Young men apply to the program through Xi Tau Lambda Chapter. Accepted participants and their families attend a program orientation and meet their assigned chapter mentor.
Participants attend bi-weekly meetings, complete service hours, maintain GPA standards, and engage with their mentor throughout the academic year.
Brothers assist participants in identifying scholarship opportunities, writing essays, completing applications, and preparing for college interviews.
Eligible seniors who have completed two or more years in the program are considered for chapter scholarship awards distributed annually through the Alpha Legacy Scholarship Gala.
In addition to chapter scholarships, Xi Tau Lambda brothers assist Legacy Group participants in applying for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. national scholarship opportunities, including the Brother's Keeper Educational Fund.
